MAINPEAK COLLIE ADVENTURE RACE 2010

Collie River, Western Australia

The Mainpeak Collie Adventure Race (previously known as the Mainpeak Collie Marathon) is back for 2010. The race is held on the 9th of October, against a backdrop of the the picturesque countryside, river and bushland of the Collie River Valley. The race is a relay which starts and finishes at the Collie Showground; participation is invited from individuals or teams. Last years race was a huge success with a record number of teams and individuals competing. Team Mainpeak placed 11th and 5th in their categories, which was an excellent result. This year we've assembled another crack team to take on the race and we wish them best of luck in the lead up.

The stages are:

A 27km road bike race to Collie Power Station and return

TEAM MAINPEAK

EmilyEmily Sheridan is one of the Mainpeak old school and is taking on the much anticipated 15km horse leg. No stranger to animals, Emily has grown up surrounded by animals, and at last count her family farm has 21 horses,20 or so chickens, a 3 legged cat, 2 emu's and a goose called Petunia that is convinced she's a horse. Emily, like most of our crack squad, has a fierce competitive side, and will stop at nothing to win. Don't blink.... or you'll miss her.

DerrenDerren Hall: climber, mountain biker, swimmer, snowboarder, hiker, bike polo player, underwater hockey veteran. This and years of outdoor experience, has made Derren into the machine that he is today. This time round Derren is taking on the gruelling 25km mountain bike leg (last year he took on the swimming leg of the race), and we have no doubt his peak physical condition and exhaustive training regime will see him arrive at the line first.

LibbyLibby LeCoultre is a lover of all things water related. As long as she's in or near the ocean, a lake or a pool - she's happy. Libby is a keen swimmer, rower, plays canoe polo and loves kayaking and surf skiing. Out of the water she mountain bikes, competes in adventure racing and athletics. So it's safe to say she loves her sport. But don't be misled by her cheeky grin, Libby has a serious competitive streak and trains with WAIS twice a day in sprint kayaking, competes in surf ski events, has entered and won her category 4 times in the Avon Descent and is currently away in Italy representing Australia in canoe polo. Of course we're biased here at Mainpeak, but we'd have no hesitation betting Emily's farm on Libby to take out the canoe leg.

LeifLeif Andreassen, part time hiker, adventurer, road bike racer.... full time Norwegian nutcase. Leif's adventurous side has taken him to locations all round the world, most recently a hiking and fishing trip back to the home country, roughing it in the harshest terrain and living off the land. When he's back home he trains daily - riding 30-60km per day with his top secret custom "non-aero-dynamic" training aid strapped firmly to his back. In the past he's competed in the 100km Santos Great Bike Ride and more recently his team placed first in the Cottesloe Ocean Adventure. Leif is yet another arrow in the finely tuned quivver that is Team Mainpeak.

Dave Dave Lindner has spent a large part of his life involved in the outdoors and has tramped extensively throughout the UK, NZ, Canada and Europe, often solo with just his backpack and thoughts as company. A keen runner, Dave has completed the Icebreaker Motatapu off-road marathon, the Aukland half marathon and the London marathon. Eager to achieve his childhood dream of getting a run with Accrington Stanley FC, Dave has increased his training regime this year and has recently completed the City to Surf half marathon. This lanky Englishman is a worthy inclusion to this years team and has one hell of kick, so don't be surprised to see him powering past bewildered opponents en-route to the finish line.

More team bio's to come.
