In blistering hot conditions the Gold Coast’s Jeremy Cotter and South African world champion Hank McGregor have joined forces to grab an unlikely victory in 25km Finn Kayaks Coastal Challenge teams relay from Fremantle to Sorrento Beach in Perth on Sunday.

Olympic champion Ken Wallace will headline the field when some of the planet’s best surf ski and kayak paddlers converge on Perth for two days of intense racing on the 16th and 17th of January.

AVON DESCENT 2010 - RESULTS


Avon 2010The 2010 Avon Descent was run over the weekend with record low water levels and large numbers of paddlers either not starting or pulling out of the race before the finish. Fastest paddlecraft  times blew out from under nine hours last year to over 11 hours this year and even experienced paddlers found it a huge challenge just to finish and newcomers making it to the end should be immensely proud. Race results can be found here.

For those looking at paddling in next years Avon Descent there is no better time to kit yourself out. With water levels being notoriously low pre event, novices should be looking towards doing as much preparation in the next couple of months before the river starts drying out completely for the summer months. Mainpeak Paddlesports have all  the advice and gear you need for a strong 2011 Avon Descent preparation. Keep in mind that in the past very low years have often been followed high water levels, here’s hoping anyway!
