MARK SHEEN SUMMITS DENALI

Mark Sheen, first WA-born person to summit Mt Everest and Mainpeak gear tester, has just completed a successful ascent of Denali in Alaska and has provided us with a short overview of his achievement. We will post Mark's latest images and video footage as soon as we receive them from him.

Just a quick news update-I climbed Denali on July 1st with my two other team mates Ryan Waters and Eric Larsen.

We managed to climb the mountain in 6 days with a total trip of only 8 days. We left the 14200ft camp on July 1 and went very quick to the 16200ft ridge and as we were feeling well and the weather was good we decided to pass the last camp at 17000ft and keep going to the top. The views were magical.

The flight in and particularly out was absolutely amazing with the pilot going very close to a mountain pass ridge line....I have a video of this and will provide it soon. Watch this space.

Otherwise all is well and I would like to again thanks Mainpeak for all the great gear provided.

I may go with Ryan to Russia and quickly climb Elbrus peak and perhaps continue with the 7 summits this year which should be fun and get some exposure.

Note: The highest mountain in North America, Mt. McKinley (Denali) has been the goal of aspiring high altitude climbers since it was first climbed in 1913. Its reputation as a highly coveted summit derives from its location near the Arctic Circle and the Pacific Ocean giving it some of the most ferocious weather in the world. Because of its weather and ease of access, some climbers use McKinley as a training ground for climbing the 8,000 meter peaks of the Himalaya, including Everest.

Mt. McKinley is also known by its Athabascan name Denali meaning "The Great One" and some climbers refuse to use "McKinley" when referring to this mountain. In fact, at least half a dozen names exist for the highest mountain in North America and most translate to "The Great One".
