MEET THE MAINPEAK GANG

This time round we catch up with Belinda Evans and speak to her about her love of travel, finding new places and being a ninja.

Belinda Evans - Web Sales (and part-time Ninja)

Favourite holiday destination?
I can’t answer this question easily. My top three holiday destinations (in no particular order) are Pai in Northern Thailand, San Francisco and Hawaii. I love the scenery of Pai and its laid back atmosphere. A small town set beside a river, surrounded by rice fields and mountains. Lazy days can be spent cruising around on scooters, relaxing by waterfalls, eating delicious Thai food and drinking freshly made Chai. San Fran is a great city to explore. There are so many things to see and do and heaps of great eating spots tucked around the different areas of the city.  Lucky last is Hawaii. As well as having friendly people and a classic island vibe, it has a nice balance between white sand beaches and thick Jurassic jungle. The ocean is crystal clear and offers great snorkelling and the waves are easy to surf. There are also plenty of hiking trails if you're that way inclined. Best of all are the shrimp trucks on the North Shore. Giovanni's Shrimp Truck serves up a mouth-watering shrimp scampi made up of prawns cooked in a very tasty garlic sauce served on steaming rice.

What piece of gear would you never leave the house without and why?
My everyday piece of gear is my North Face messenger bag, but for travel and hiking adventures I always take my Victorinox pocket knife. My Dad brought it for me when I was 11 and somehow I haven’t lost it and it is still sharp enough to cut a tomato.

If you weren’t working at Mainpeak what would you be doing?
I would be travelling the world. There are so many places I want to explore that I often feel like there’s not enough time to do it all in.

Where can we find you on the weekends?
Aside from representing the Web team on Saturdays in the office, you can find me at early morning training sessions for Iaido and Bojutsu. While some people like to relax on Sundays you’ll find me running along the coast and studying for various uni exams or assignments. When the opportunity comes up I like to go camping or hiking, but sadly I don’t get out as much as I would like.

Any final wise words for the outdoor adventurer?
Stop talking about it and just go and do it. You can spend all your life telling people where you would love to go and what you would love to do, but the time needs to come when you stop just talking about it and take action.
