Suggested gear list for
Hiking Kalbarri
The Kalbarri gorge offers
some of the most rewarding hiking within Western Australia. Perhaps the most
scenic is between the ‘Z Bend’ & ‘The Loop’/’Natures Window’, however,
trekkers should not take this section lightly. The hike is over challenging
terrain, which requires continual problem solving due to the negotiation of
cliffs and the odd water crossing. The distance is short. and the speed of
travel slow, but around each corner lies another terrific view. This trek can
be completed in two nights / three days, however another night would allow a
little more luxury. A car shuffle is necessary and it is advisable to travel in
groups of at least three (be sure to register your trip with the local ranger).
If concentrating in this area there is no need to take a tent as trekkers
generally sleep under rock overhangs. Fresh water supply can be limited, so
taking a water filter is a great idea. For further info or questions see Rob at
Mainpeak Cottesloe.
